Hope & Despair

Greetings Everyone!

It's another Wednesday which means it's time for another newsletter! This week was very important one for me as I turned 20 yesterday. My birthday felt very weird. I'm 20 now, but I just finished high school the week prior. I'm still going back too which doesn't really make me feel 20. I really hoped I'd be farther along than I am. That just means I need to work all the harder! There's a lot of cool things I want to share with you all. Firstly, I'll tell you what I've been working on.

Project Updates

RPG Maker

Last week, I said I was contemplating switching to MZ. However, those plans were quickly shot down. For some reason, Steam's family sharing didn't include MZ. So, I'm back to XP or VX Ace. To be completely honest, I haven't done anything in RPG Maker since last week as well. I've been brainstorming ideas, but that's really all I've done here. I have also decided that it's probably best to postpone this project as I have a couple others I want to do. NOT CANCELLED: JUST POSTPONED

Pokémon Autum Orange

I've wanted to make a webcomic series for a few years now. The problem is I've never had a story worth telling. That said, I have made some plans for Pokémon fanfiction in the past. I started work on Chapter 1 this week and have a couple panels done. There's character design sketches and story plans all coming together. I really want to dive into Pokémon's multiverse and time travel stuff that we don't get to see, so hopefully progress comes along smoothly. I want to have a backlog of volumes before I start posting them, preferably, the whole first Chapter/Arc done. No release date yet since I have no idea what my school schedule will truly look like, but I'll keep you all updated! The comic will be on Tumblr, so I hope you look forward to it.

TikTok and YouTube Shorts

Despite the TikTok ban news, I've really liked making videos on TikTok. I used to quite a bit, but sadly that account is no more. I did try making YouTube Shorts, but I didn't have my tablet or pen, so I felt like I couldn't give it my all. Once I got the gear upgrade, I was hoping to upgrade my software as well. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Regardless, I found a style that I think could work. It's also very sketchy which means it's a lot faster to make. This will be very helpful as I am usually unable to record my voice. The same videos will be posted on both TikTok and YouTube; although, I already ran into an issue with using audios. I think I know how I'll work around it though. There's no schedule to these either. It'll be whenever I have time and I have an idea for one. I will record my voice for some upcoming ones, which I'm working on, but those are still VERY early in production given my microphone setup.

Project YHF

Lastly, we have my final current project. I'm currently looking into coding a game without a game engine. I've gotten really inspired by some games that I'll mention very shortly, and I feel this is a game I have to make. I don't really want to say more on it because I think the game will be pretty short. Today, I've been trying to get an IDE set up. I used to use Visual Studio Code, but then I switched when JetBrains Rider became free. Unfortunately, I never got C++ to work in the engine, and so today I said "Screw it!" and went back to VS Code just to forget how to use it. I do have a course in C++, so I'm hoping that will help me get set up.

TWIF

This week I didn't find a whole ton of things to show you all, but I did find some cool games that I want to share.

COOL GAME ALERT

I'm not even going to describe this one. Just... watch.

VISUAL NOVELS BABY!!!

This week I finished Sonic Frontiers. I really liked it; albeit, I played with a guide that I opened a couple times. Anyway, that's not what this section is about. For my birthday. I was given a $50 Steam gift card. I thought about how I would use. Would I save up for Guilty Gear Strive when it goes on sale? Would I use it for a couple games when I get the chance? I know I want to get Deltarune, so I should keep some money saved for that. Well, it turns out my dad has the Ace Attorney Trilogy! I started that, and I'm currently on episode 3. I love this game!... Well, aside from episode 2's ending. That felt like such an asspull especially since I wanted them to use the receipt. Regardless, Ace Attorney is amazing!

The day before my birthday, I found a bundle of games on sale. Danganronpa 1, 2, Another Episode, and 3 were all in a bundle and on sale for about $20. I don't really know anything on Danganronpa but I took the chance. I think I like this more than Ace Attorney! I'm still not far in it at all, only about 3.5 hours, and yet it's EASILY hooked me. The story! The characters! I'm so in! That opening custscene is great and the game's first cutscene with Monokuma just had me hooked. Not to mention, where Ace Attorney has dramatic-ness, Danganronpa has style. Together, these games made me want to try making a visual novel. Moreover, this last game really sealed it.

Milk Inside A Bag Of Milk Inside A Bag Of Milk is a very short visual novel. I got it on sale on my birthday for a $1.01 including tax. This game is the polar opposite of the other two in the best way possible. It gives a sense of unease the whole way through. The game's story is great. The visuals are so unique! ...It also... hit a bit close to home... Where before I would have used an engine to make a visual novel, this game shows me that I need to do it myself. It will be a short game, but that makes all the experience from making it myself all the more worthwhile.

Find The Computer Room

I was telling a story on BlueSky about how I showed my older sister Sonic quotes and one of them that I was showing her was "Find the computer room!" My friend Allison showed me this channel called Find The Computer Room. I haven't checked out their videos yet, but I still wanted to share this because it reminds me of a wholesome moment with my sister and my friend Allison.

Before I Go,

I feel hopeful for the semester and my plans ahead, but I also can't help but feel I am behind. There's so much I haven't said here, and I hope my little game will shed some light on these feelings that I don't quite know how to describe. Even if not many people or no one at all reads these newsletters, writing them has helped me stay accountable to my goals. I want to finish these projects, but I rarely ever do. I will come back to RPG Maker. I just realize that I shouldn't make an RPG just yet. There's a lot going on in the world right now both globally and myself internally. I'm just trying to keep telling myself everything will be fine. Everything will work out. I just need to keep working on things that are actually worth my time and will push me forward. I know I play a lot of video games, which I mention here, but I honestly just really like seeing what people make and have made, and now I can share them with you all too. That said, when school comes around in full gear, I will prioritize that and this newsletter and these projects right below it. After all, I need something to write about and share with you all hehe.

I realize there's no question today, so in case someone is reading this, how was your week? Let me know what you've been up to even if you feel it was very mundane. Please take care everyone, and I'm excited to write to you next week. Share anything neat you find in the usual spots. Again, take care everyone!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2025!     Congratulations! You've made it to the midpoint of this God forsaken decade! It's been hell and it's been fun. My family and I are starting this year sick. How fun! Already Missed A Deadline

It's Been A While...     Hello everyone. It's great to see you! ...Or well, more like the number of views on these blogs. I know each number is a person and that means more than words to me. I know I've kept you all waiting with this post. After one post, I'm already late. I'm deeply sorry about that. In fact, I owe you all an explanation. What Happened To Last Week's Newsletter?     Schoolwork. I underestimated the amount of schoolwork I would have. I was finishing two courses that week as well as a research project for the other. This last course has its final exam this coming Friday which also means I've been studying. On top of this, It was my younger sister's 18th birthday, so we were celebrating that. We were also celebrating my 20th birthday as my family's schedule isn't aligning well with it.      While I initially planned to write these posts every week, I was writing them on the Wednesday of release. In fact, it's what I'm doing...
